About The Role

The Salvation Army is committed to embedding a Māori responsiveness and engagement strategy across all of its services. It has created this new position to work across its services across Aotearoa and lead the Māori operational team.

  • Pou Ahurea will provide strategic and operational cultural leadership, tikanga Māori support and advice to the senior leadership of The Salvation Army New Zealand Social services. This position will also work with TSA Māori leadership team and TSA Runanga
  • You will develop strong relationships with iwi/hapū/Māori organisations and strong consultative connections with TSA leaders and Māori Ministry leaders.
  • You will lead the implementation of Te Ōhākī (the Māori Ministry Strategic Plan) and ensure it's relevant for each service. This includes the implementation of the national competency framework to support TSA leadership in building a culturally competent and responsive workforce across all centres and locations.
  • The Pou Ahurea will also support THQ leadership to implement Tiriti-based policies and to develop programmes, procedures and practices, focussed on the wellbeing and flourishing of tāngata whenua and TSA as a whole.
  • Te Pou Ahurea is line managed by Te Tai Rere, will be a member of the social services leadership team.

Person Profile

  • Proven management experience
  • Understanding of operational effectiveness; able to identify and build business and action plans to enact Runanga strategy
  • Proficiency in te reo rangatira me ōna tikanga
  • Strong understanding and experience of Te Ao Māori, tikanga and mātauranga Māori
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, in both Te Reo Māori and English
  • Practices whakawhanaungatanga and has good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with a strong understanding of the bicultural relationship between Māori and the Crown, between tāngata whenua and tāngata Tiriti, while working well in a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Ability to teach/facilitate Māori cultural competency training/mentoring
  • The ability to problem solve, use initiative and display sound judgement
  • Proactive, with good personal management skills to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • A commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army
  • Experience working within a large non-government/community organisation

This role is permanent full-time role working 40 hours per week.

The starting salary for this role will fall between $101,318 - $145,644
