Established in 1995, our client Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora provides quality health, education, and social services within the rohe of Tūwharetoa i te Aupouri and the Eastern Bay of Plenty communities that reflects te taha tinana, te taha hinengaro, te taha wairua me te taha whānau. We are looking for a Kaupapa Mental Health and Addictions practitioner who has at least 8 – 10 years’ experience working across the mental health and addictions sector to join their team
He aha te tūnga | About the role:
Encompassing Kawerau and the surrounding district, the Kaupapa Crises Lead will be the first point of call to service the crises need of whānau who present with mental health addiction needs.
Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, this position is aimed at ensuring eligible whānau have timely access to high quality mental health and addiction support services and other support where identified.
An employment, or contracting opportunity will be considered.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Undertake comprehensive and accurate triage, assessment, and risk assessment of clients
- Identify and mobilise immediate interventions and support to stabilise the crises within the first 24 – 72 hours
- Provide greater access to crises support and services after hours
- Provide short-term case management and wrap around support
- Ensure whānau are connected with the appropriate follow up interventions, support and wrap around pathways
- Facilitate access to support services, arrange referrals to external agencies
- Complete reporting requirements, ensuring strict client confidentiality

The role requires a Kaupapa Mental Health and Addictions practitioner who has at least 8 – 10 years’ experience working across the mental health and addictions sector. Therefore, we are seeking those who meet the following requirements:
5 – 10 years’ experience in the following fields;
- Kaupapa Māori MHA
- Mental Health Services
- Alcohol and Other drugs
- Government or NGO social services
- Child and/or health services
- Justice system
- Whānau Violence
- Strength based and Recovery based practices
The successful candidate will also need to meet the following requirements:
- Extensive relationships with whānau, hapū and Iwi within the Kawerau and surrounding communities
- Whānau Ora wrap around experience
- Current registration to a relevant professional health body (Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, DAPAANZ, AOD)
- Lived experience of recovery and mental Illness
- Risk Assessment and Management Experience
- Progress Reporting competency
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, team building and conflict resolution skills
- De-escalation and Trauma Management experience
- Current, full NZ Drivers Licence
- Good understanding of Kaupapa Māori frameworks and application to service delivery
- Strong knowledge of TKKH and the Eastern Bay of Plenty Communities
- Familiarity with Toi Kairakau Kaupapa Māori MHA providers
- Excellent computer literacy skills, with proficiency in all Microsoft Office functions
