The team you'll join:

You’ll join our Controls Assurance and Advisory team as an Associate Director in Deloitte’s Controls Assurance & Advisory business based in Wellington’s CBD. Ideally, you are someone with a strong background in internal audit, policy and process improvement and risk management within a corporate or professional services firm and have gained your experience working with commercial clients. Experience should include internal controls and risk management with several years work experience.

Our team helps organisations look below the surface to achieve superior performance through a full range of governance, business controls advisory, internal audit and independent reviews /assessments. Teaming with a client’s first, second and/or third line functions, we work with our clients to achieve a high level of performance, assisting with enhancing controls, process efficiency, fraud risk reduction, operational quality, and obligations/ regulatory compliance. You’ll work across a range of industries and clients, keep abreast of emerging trends in governance, risk and compliance and help in developing business improvement and assurance plans.

In a highly integrated environment, for internal audit work, you’ll collaborate in planning internal audits, manage the fieldwork team, perform evaluations of control design, and carry out assessments of the effectiveness of internal controls to ensure their integrity.

The Impact You'll Make

  • Learning and development, our Directors and Partners will support your development and provide coaching, guidance, and direction.
  • Working with talented risk professionals adept in applying critical thinking to help clients improve business practices, performance and operating efficiency by applying the risk, process and controls lens and taking a pragmatic approach.
  • Delivering complex advice and reviews, leveraging your understanding of the clients’ industry, regulatory requirements, strategy, business objectives, practices and controls.
  • A focus on strengthening organisational governance, risk management and assurance, and will advance improvements to business policies and practices including third party risk assurance. 
  • Working closely with client leaders to define engagement scope, objectives and deliverables that support change and improvements.
  • Inspiring your team to plan and execute engagements on time and to budget. Acting as a role model, you will positively influence people to develop a high-performing team, you will also contribute commercially by developing deep client relationships, identifying opportunities, and bringing additional client work.
  • Opportunities to gain exposure to a range of industries and sectors, and a broad spectrum of complex challenges.

Qualifications

Your expertise:

  • 8-10+ years demonstrated experience in a risk – controls assurance and advisory roles, leading and delivering engagements in professional services and/or government agency.
  • Experience and passion for leading, developing and mentoring a diverse and inclusive team, you enjoy seeing newer practitioners grow and develop.
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement and change, governance, risk, control and assurance frameworks and practices. Regulatory risk, compliance experience.
  • Exposure to business process improvement, third party risk management and project risk an advantage.
  • Experience of managing and delivering complex reviews or assessments, business process and control redesign, second line assurance and internal audit, risk and governance engagements for medium and large organisations.
  • You are driven, well-rounded with a high level of energy, having ability to think laterally, enjoy getting things done, and most importantly have a love for learning.
  • Proven business development experience, from lead generation and leading bid management through to the delivery of client engagements.
  • Ability to communicate, present and contextualise complex ideas concisely and accurately while adjusting style and tone to suit your audience.

For this permanent position you will be rewarded with a competitive salary from $135 000 to $155 000 p.a. dependent on experience, healthcare insurance subsidy, and mobile phone benefit. Flex-working available in a 37.5 hour work week and a range of other benefits that you would expect from one of the world's leading professional services brands.
