About The Role
McConnell Dowell is looking for a skilled and experienced Fabricator Welder to join our Mechanical Division team in Auckland. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a highly regarded crew on a variety of industrial fabrication and maintenance projects.
The role offers hands-on variety across structural steel, plate work, and pipework, and would suit someone who enjoys working in a team environment with a strong focus on safety and quality.
We’re after someone who can hit the ground running and support our apprentices with coaching and on-the-job guidance.

We’re after someone who can hit the ground running and support our apprentices with coaching and on-the-job guidance.
Responsibilities Include
- Carry out fabrication and welding of structural steel, plate work, and pipework.
- Complete installation, fitting, and plant maintenance, including tunnel machine equipment.
- Rigging and lifting of fabricated components (strong skills in this area preferred).
- Maintain high standards of quality control and adherence to technical specs.
- Work in accordance with HSE requirements and company policies at all times.
- Mentor and coach apprentices to support their learning and development.
- Collaborate with team members to meet schedules and production targets.
- Trade qualified in Fabrication and/or Welding.
- 5+ years’ experience working in heavy fabrication, including structural, pipework, and plate work.
- Proven rigging and lifting capability in complex environments.
- Strong knowledge of HSE compliance and safe work practices.
- Welder qualifications and certifications (a bonus).
- Experience mentoring or coaching apprentices or junior team members.
- Detail-focused with a strong commitment to quality and doing the job right.
- A practical team player who brings a proactive, can-do attitude to site every day.
