The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Head of Podcasts to drive audience growth and commercial success across our podcast and vodcast platforms for the New Zealand Herald.
This is a unique chance to shape our podcasting future: from developing commissioning strategies and managing production pipelines, to getting hands-on with scripting and editing when needed. How You'll Do It
- Lead and inspire: Manage and coach a talented team of producers, editors and presenters across podcasts and vodcasts, ensuring alignment with NZ Herald's newsroom mission and ethics.
- Craft and create: Oversee scripting, production and editing – and jump in hands-on when needed to maintain premium quality.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with content, video, marketing, and commercial teams to build seamless workflows and deliver engaging, multi-platform content.
- Innovate fearlessly: Champion fresh formats, integrate video and written storytelling, and explore interactive and immersive content approaches.
- Analyse and evolve: Use audience insights, analytics and research to guide strategy, improve engagement, and continually optimise performance.
- Plan and prioritise: Manage budgets and timelines, and ensure a balanced pipeline of high, mid and low production content.
- Stay ahead of the curve: Track global podcast trends to keep NZ Herald at the forefront of audio innovation.
- You have significant newsroom and/or digital broadcasting experience, and understand the technical, editorial and creative aspects of multimedia storytelling.
- You’re an exceptional communicator who builds trust, updates regularly and collaborates across departments with ease.
- You thrive on teamwork and create a culture where others are empowered and supported to do their best work.
- You lead with purpose – coaching, mentoring and championing excellence in every project.
- You’re audience-obsessed – using data and instinct to deliver content people genuinely want to hear and share.
