About the role:
New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Programme Leader to guide one of our new initial teacher academic programmes and lead a team of passionate Lecturers. In this leadership role, you’ll oversee programme operations, academic quality, moderation, team coordination, and ongoing curriculum development.
The primary purpose of this position will be taking on the role for the development and roll out of the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary). The role includes developing a team of advisors who can form a working group that will advise on courses, developing a network of schools for the Schools Onsite Training Programme, and ensuring the NZQA / Teaching Council application is prepared and submitted.
As Programme Leader, you’ll also be responsible for ensuring exceptional student learning outcomes, while maintaining strong connections with sector partners and representing NZTC in relevant professional forums and events.
This is a full-time, permanent position, and is open to candidates across the country - however you must have flexibility for occasional domestic travel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the academic staff to deliver high-quality teaching and learning
- Oversee day-to-day programme operations, workload management, and academic coordination
- Ensure academic consistency through moderation, marking alignment, and curriculum monitoring
- Participate in programme development and review in collaboration with specialist academic staff
- Engage with sector partners, support marketing efforts, and contribute to student enrolment initiatives
- Monitor student support and engagement within your programme
- Contribute to research and professional development activities
- Ensure programme compliance with NZQA standards and NZTC’s Quality Management System
About You/Key Requirements:
We are seeking a strong candidate with experience in managing initial teacher education programmes and/or lecturing in primary education. You will also have a strong understanding of the changes and requirements for entry into primary programmes.
To be considered, you must meet the following requirements:
- Current fully registered, qualified primary teacher.
- Hold an appropriate qualification at a minimum of a master’s level degree in education, preferably in primary education.
- Proven experience in academic leadership, programme delivery, or lecturing.
- Strong knowledge of educational regulations and professional teaching standards in New Zealand.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage people, priorities, and processes effectively
- Experience with professional growth cycles and staff development
- Clear and confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- A commitment to ongoing research, development, and sector engagement
- Familiarity with online learning environments is advantageous
