SH1 Papakura to Drury Stage 1B (Stage 1B) is part of a staged upgrade to improve SH1 and adjacent multi modal travel reliability, access, and safety. Stage 1B ties into Stage1A, NIMT Bridges, and completes a combined 6km of three laned SH1 in both directions, six new motorway bridges and multiple interfacing local roads, over motorway bridges, Shared User Paths (SUPs) and upgraded utilities.

We are now looking for a Commercial Manager to join the team. This is a unique opportunity to implement, manage and drive the project's commercial framework, including processes and systems. You'll align budgets with project delivery, understand contractual obligations, manage risk, and lead the finance team to ensure all contractual commitments are met.
You'll contribute to the project's strategic direction, ensuring robust systems and close integration with client needs. This hands-on role suits someone with experience on large projects, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency in commercial and financial reporting.
As the commercial SME on the Senior Leadership Team, you'll provide guidance, governance, and be a key decision-maker. Building strong relationships and effective communication are critical strengths. You'll be the trusted 'go to' person, capable of quickly establishing rapport and assisting with diverse inquiries and issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Work with Project Controls to monitor costs, ensuring the project stays within budget. Prepare financial reports and forecasts. Lead and mentor the finance team to ensure accurate financial management and reporting.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, and subcontractors. Manage contract disputes, ensure compliance with terms and coordinate with legal and project teams on issues.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate commercial risks, develop risk management strategies and ensure legal compliance.
- Project Coordination: Collaborate with zone managers, engineers, HSQE and other stakeholders for effective communication and project progress.
- Client Relations: Maintain strong relationships, provide updates and assist the Project Director with client concerns.

We're looking for someone with:
- A recognised qualification in Accounting or Quantity Surveying and at least 10-15 years' relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years of experience in a commercial management role within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts particularly NZS 3910
- Proficiency in project management software (preferably CCS) and financial reporting tools (preferably JDE).
- Sound commercial understanding of information, and offers analysis, interpretation and decision support to the business.
- Knowledge and experience of management and financial accounting principles and practices.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills that leads to strengthened capability in both what staff do and how they do it.
- Ability to accurately and clearly convey complex information in a meaningful way.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
