Position Overview
Whiria Te Tangata o Taupo Moana is a Nurse Practitioner lead clinic established in 2023, offering free health care to whanau in the Tuwharetoa rohe. We are a mobile clinic, based in Turangi, Taupo and Waitahanui. Currently, we have one Nurse Practitioner who works across Turangi, Taupo and Waitahanui and one GP working part-time in Turangi.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our dynamic, Nurse Practitioner-led Mobile Health Clinic team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive primary health care services with a strong focus on equity, accessibility, and continuity of care. This role primarily covers the Taupō and Waitahanui locations, supporting whānau with high-quality, culturally safe, and holistic healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full scope, autonomous Nurse Practitioner services in alignment with professional competencies and scopes of practice.
- Perform advanced assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning, including prescribing medications and ordering diagnostic tests.
- Provide person- and whānau-centred care with a strong focus on health promotion, chronic disease management, and preventative care.
- Collaborate with the wider mobile health team, including other Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, MCA's and Rongoa Practitioners.
- Use electronic patient management systems effectively to document care and contribute to data reporting.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to service development tailored to the needs of the local population.
- Engage respectfully with Māori and other communities, upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in daily practice.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Proven experience working in General Practice / Primary Health Care.
- Strong clinical assessment, prescribing, and care planning skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based, community-focused model.
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel within the Taupō and Waitahanui areas as part of a mobile clinic team.
Preferred:
- Experience working in mobile health or outreach services.
- Understanding of Māori health models and experience working with Māori communities.
- Familiarity with Indici or similar electronic patient management systems.
