Volunteering Services is a division of SociaLink Tūhono Pāpori, an umbrella organisation that exists to build the capability, confidence, sustainability, and voice of the social and community sector in the Western Bay of Plenty. 


As the volunteer centre for the region, Volunteering Services champions, grows, and sustains local volunteering by connecting people with meaningful opportunities, helping organisations find and support volunteers, and promoting the value of volunteering.

HE WHAI TAKE | Position purpose

The Group Volunteering Coordinator plays a key role in a one-year pilot project that aims to bring people together through meaningful group volunteering experiences in the Western Bay of Plenty District. This role is all about making connections – between corporate teams, community groups, schools, and the organisations that need their support – and ensuring these experiences are valuable, well-organised and rewarding for everyone involved.


You’ll be the person who helps turn good intentions into great community impact, supporting both volunteers and host organisations to make the most of their time together.

  • A warm, professional approach with great communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong coordination and planning abilities – you're someone who gets things done
  • Confidence speaking to groups and sharing the project story with energy
  • The ability to work independently, manage time well and juggle multiple tasks
  • Experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement or event planning
  • Comfortable using digital tools like Google Suite, Outlook, Canva, CRM systems, and social media
  • A genuine passion for community, volunteering and bringing people together
  • Previous experience in a community, non-profit or volunteer management role
  • Familiarity with the Western Bay of Plenty community, networks and corporate landscape
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi and inclusive and culturally responsive ways of working


MŌ TE TŪRANGA | About the role 

Building Connections

  • Work closely with community organisations to find opportunities where group volunteers can make a real difference
  • Build positive relationships with businesses and community groups
  • Connect with business and community networks in the Western Bay of Plenty district
  • Help identify and build relationships with potential future funders for the project


Project Coordination

  • Coordinate the logistics – from start to finish – for each group volunteering experience
  • Match groups to projects that suit their interests, skills and availability
  • Ensure risk management and health & safety plans are in place and followed


Communications and Engagement

  • Promote upcoming group volunteering opportunities through social media, newsletters, group presentations and direct outreach
  • Support great communication between volunteers and host organisations to ensure everything runs smoothly
  • Create engaging content and stories about each project, including feedback, photos and highlights


Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Gather feedback from volunteers and host organisations to understand the impact of each experience
  • Support the development of an evaluation and impact framework for the pilot
  • Support reporting and evaluation of the pilot project by capturing key successes, challenges, and learnings.


Administration

  • Keep clear records of who’s taking part and what outcomes are achieved
  • Help shape monthly updates and the final project report
  • Develop surveys to support project evaluation

Internal: Volunteering Services team and wider SociaLink team.

External: Local businesses and business groups, for-purpose organisations, schools, community networks and other stakeholders involved in volunteering.

Note:

  • Only applicants with the legal right to work in Aotearoa will be considered for this role. 


  • A full driver licence and access to your own transport is required. Mileage for travel within the Western Bay of Plenty District will be reimbursed at the current IRD rate.


  • This role with Volunteering Services is offered under an Independent Contractor Agreement. The contractor will invoice monthly and is responsible for their own tax obligations.


  • The role requires 8-10 hours of work per week.


  • The contractor will need to provide their own equipment, including a laptop, mobile phone, relevant software and an internet connection (when working from home).
