GHD is on the lookout for a highly experienced, client-focused Lead Owner Engineer to join our team and drive business growth in the Power & Future Energy market in New Zealand with a strong emphasis on Renewable Projects.
This role is designed for a dynamic professional who will serve as the primary point of contact for our key clients, ensuring tailored solutions and exceptional service.
This position is based in Auckland or Christchurch.

GHD is on the lookout for a highly experienced, client-focused Lead Owner Engineer to join our team and drive business growth in the Power & Future Energy market in New Zealand with a strong emphasis on Renewable Projects.
This role is designed for a dynamic professional who will serve as the primary point of contact for our key clients, ensuring tailored solutions and exceptional service.
This position is based in Auckland or Christchurch.
The role:
- Collaborate closely with BGL & Technical Directors to build and strengthen client relationships, expanding GHD’s presence in New Zealand’s Renewable Energy sector.
- Serve as the main liaison for major Solar and Wind projects, aligning client objectives with innovative project outcomes.
- Lead project delivery teams and take on design manager or project manager responsibilities for client-centric engagements.
- Spearhead bid processes from go/no-go decisions through to proposal development, engaging directly with clients to craft bespoke solutions.
- Cultivate long-term partnerships with leading electricity generators (such as Genesis Energy, Mercury, Contact, and Meridian Energy) and renewable developers.
- Act as a trusted advisor, proactively addressing client challenges and identifying opportunities to drive sustainable growth.
- Focus on projects in the New Zealand/Pacific region, with opportunities to engage with clients across the wider APAC market.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of industry experience (consulting background preferred) with a proven track record in client engagement and relationship management.
- Demonstrated project management expertise, including leading successful, client-winning proposals and marketing pursuits.
- CPEng accreditation or actively working towards it (preferred).
- Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical solutions to diverse audiences.
- Proactive, decisive, and client-centric with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
