The opportunity

We are seeking an Operational Technology Systems Engineer to join our Automation team in Dunedin, reporting to the Operational Technology and Automation Lead. This full-time role offers a mix of office, site, and some remote working flexibility. You'll be instrumental in delivering small to medium OT and automation projects across New Zealand, including critical work for the Milford Road Alliance (MRA) and Homer Tunnel operations.

This is a hands-on technical role contributing to AI, IoT, CCTV analytics, instrumentation, telemetry, SCADA and OT network systems. You'll work closely with our in-house software and engineering teams to build reliable, secure and cost-effective systems that make a real difference to community safety and operations.

What you'll do

  • Deliver and maintain OT systems for projects including SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, and industrial networks
  • Support CCTV, incident detection, and tunnel operations centre systems for the MRA
  • Design and implement secure OT network infrastructure with a focus on reliability and compliance
  • Monitor and maintain remote, unattended systems and contribute to ongoing product development
  • Travel occasionally for routine and reactive maintenance, ensuring excellent client service

What we're looking for
You'll be a solutions-driven professional with a strong foundation in OT and a passion for delivering real-world impact through technology. You will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Electronics, Telecommunications, or IT
  • Broad experience across OT systems (SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, CCTV, sensors, industrial PCs and networks)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams
  • A proactive, team-focused attitude and willingness to travel occasionally
  • Desirable: 4WD capability, First Aid, and working at heights certification
