Our Context and Group Purpose

Operations Process & Technology Improvement (OPTI) is a key function within the Operations Division, responsible for identifying capability requirements to support future needs and providing a clear roadmap and investment plan to deliver the necessary capability uplift. OPTI manages, delivers, and governs this investment plan, ensuring value for money while achieving strategic outcomes.

OPTI also drives efficiencies by proactively identifying and implementing technology and process improvements to meet evolving service expectations, and by supporting the key technology toolset used within Operations.

The team

Our Operations Process and Technology Improvement (OPTI) group supports the Operations division in delivering the solutions needed to manage the real-time power system and prepare for an increasingly electrified future. Learn more about our role: https://www.transpower.co.nz/system-operator/our-system-operator-role

The OPTI Investment (Projects) Delivery team manages the formal joint programme relationship with the Electricity Authority and works closely with our Information Services & Technology (IST) division to ensure the successful delivery of the Operations work programme.

The opportunity - ideally an ASAP start for 12-months fixed term

In this newly created role, you'll support the Investment Delivery Manager by generating actionable insights to optimise portfolio performance and drive strategic decision-making.

You'll enjoy a wide variety of work, from defining, monitoring and analysing investment portfolio metrics to ensuring the Operations portfolio is delivered at an optimal level to meet business objectives and goals.

You'll collaborate with the Investment Delivery Manager and IST Portfolio Delivery Managers to define portfolio performance KPIs. From there, you'll partner with the Data & Analytics team to assess data availability in Transpower's cloud data warehouse, identify gaps and develop a remediation plan at pace. In parallel, you'll design, build and progressively roll out PowerBI dashboards to report on portfolio performance.

You'll bring exceptional people skills, and the ability to dive into detail while maintaining a systemic view. You understand the importance of portfolio management and analysis, and the value of visualising data to support decision-making and strategic planning.

  • Experience creating dashboards utilising PowerBI from multiple data sources
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey findings and recommendations to a wide audience
  • Exposure to or understanding of a project-centric environment and/or MS Project
  • Strong problem-solving and analysis skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues affecting portfolio performance
  • Commercial and financial acumen, with a delivery-focused mindset
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
