About the Role

G. Low Surveying is expanding its team and seeking TWO experienced Survey Field Technicians to play a key role in our land surveying operations. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, utilising advanced surveying technology while contributing to important land development initiatives across New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Operations:

  • Operate and maintain sophisticated surveying equipment including total stations (tripod-mounted digital instruments for measuring distances and angles), GPS systems, and data collectors

  • Conduct precise field measurements to establish boundaries, contours, and features of land surfaces

  • Install and monitor survey markers, stakes, and other reference points for construction and land division projects

  • Perform topographic surveys and assist in setting out engineering designs

Data Management:

  • Process raw field data using specialised software to create accurate survey models

  • Perform mathematical calculations to verify measurements and resolve discrepancies

  • Prepare detailed field notes, sketches, and digital records of all survey observations

  • Assist in producing final survey plans, maps, and technical reports

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with licensed surveyors to ensure project specifications are met

  • Supervise and mentor junior survey assistants in proper field techniques

  • Coordinate with construction teams and clients to communicate survey requirements

About You:

Essential:

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in land surveying or civil engineering fieldwork

  • Proficiency with modern survey equipment (total stations, GPS, levels)

  • Strong mathematical skills for performing survey calculations

  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various conditions and carry equipment (up to 20kg)

  • Full New Zealand driver's license (manual preferred)

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

Preferred:

  • AU/NZ Certificate/Diploma in Surveying or related technical field (such as Civil Engineering), or equivalent overseas qualification

  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) or survey processing programs

  • Multilingual capabilities and intercultural sensitivity (Chinese/Maori/Pacific)
