Ngāi Tahu Tourism is looking for a passionate and experienced Operations Manager to join the team at Hukafalls Jet - a world-renowned attraction delivering thrilling jet boat rides to the base of the spectacular Huka Falls.

This is a unique opportunity to combine operational leadership, cultural engagement, and customer excellence in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

About The Role

As Operations Manager, you'll work alongside the Business Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of Hukafalls Jet. You'll oversee jet boat operations, supervise and support the wider team, and ensure the delivery of exceptional customer experiences. You'll also serve as a back-up Jet Boat Driver when required.

This role is hands-on and diverse, covering everything from health and safety, team development, and customer service to system management, sustainability, and cultural leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead jet boat operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and engaging commentary
  • Support and coach kaimahi through regular performance discussions and development plans
  • Champion Ngāi Tahu values and foster a high-performing, culturally confident team
  • Oversee booking systems (IBIS), financial reconciliations, and vendor management
  • Manage social media content in collaboration with the Social Media Manager
  • Drive sustainability initiatives and promote the Tiaki Promise
  • Lead recruitment, induction, and training, including "Train the Trainer" programmes
  • Ensure excellence in customer service, retail presentation, and upselling
  • Maintain high standards in health and safety, hazard management, and reporting

What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years' experience managing a team in a dynamic environment
  • Experience in training, coaching, and performance management
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Core accounting knowledge and familiarity with booking systems
  • Qualified Jet Boat Driver (or willing to become one)
  • Full driver's licence
  • Background in tourism, travel, hospitality, or retail preferred
  • A commitment to Ngāi Tahu values and eagerness to grow in te reo Māori and tikanga
