Te Puawaitanga ki Ōtautahi Tust is a vibrant kaupapa Māori, whānau-centred organisation dedicated to whānau ora - empowering whānau across Waitaha Canterbury to live well and thrive. Founded in 2005 by Dame Aroha Reriti-Crofts and the Ōtautahi Branch of the Māori Women's Welfare League, our mission is to enhance the health and well-being of wāhine Māori and their whānau.
From pēpi to kaumātua, our support spans the entire life journey - offering wraparound health, education, and social services guided by tikanga and mātauranga Māori. Our support includes assisting hapū māmā and whānau in early parenting, addressing chronic diseases, mental health challenges, and helping whānau achieve their cultural and spiritual aspirations. Our kaupapa Māori framework and whānau ora approach are deeply rooted in tikanga and mātauranga Māori, with the well-being of tamariki at the heart of everything we do.

Te Puawaitanga is entering an exciting new chapter. With fresh leadership, a renewed strategic direction, and a commitment to strengthening governance, we're looking for passionate, experienced board members to help shape our future.
We're building strong foundations for the long term - including a new strategic plan, robust governance policies, and exploring diverse funding streams to ensure sustainability.
He Kōrero Mōu: About You
We are seeking two passionate trust board members with governance experience and a passion for kaupapa Māori. While ideally based in Ōtautahi or Te Waipounamu, we welcome outstanding candidates from across Aotearoa.
We're especially interested in candidates who bring strengths and professional experience in any of the following:

We are seeking two passionate trust board members with governance experience and a passion for kaupapa Māori. While ideally based in Ōtautahi or Te Waipounamu, we welcome outstanding candidates from across Aotearoa.
We're especially interested in candidates who bring strengths and professional experience in any of the following:
- Financial and risk frameworks, protocols and controls
- Investment and capital growth
- Experience in governance in a range of roles and types of organisations
- Governance experience in a Māori role such as iwi or hapu role
- Experience in use of tikanga and te reo Māori in a governance role
- Outcomes and data insights
- Rehabilitation and reintegration services in the justice sector
- Social housing initiatives
- Vocational tertiary level education
- Matauranga Māori
Mahi a Te Poari: Time Commitment
- Half-day trust board meetings 11 times per year.
- In-person attendance is preferred, though online participation is available when necessary
- Two-three half-day or full-day wānanga annually to progress strategic issues.
- Attendance at AGM and select Te Puawaitanga even
- Trust board members receive $6,000 pa.
- Sub-committee member receive additional $2,000 pa.
- Travel expenses are covered for trust board members outside of Ōtautahi
Board terms are for three years, with the right of reappointment by election
