Join Beca’s progressive Environmental & Sustainability Advisory team as an Environmental Scientist. You will be working in a collaborative and team-oriented environment, with a reputation for excellence in practice, and share a passion for robust technical analysis to understand and solve environmental issues.

Role

You will contribute to a diverse variety of environmental monitoring and technical delivery projects throughout the country, while based in Beca’s Palmerston North office working with a diverse range of experts in a close-knit local team. This role will enable you to develop your career both in your technical field as well as a consultant as part of a multi-disciplinary organisation. Other key role components include:

  • Undertaking field work at locations across the lower North Island as part of a team or independently
  • Environmental construction monitoring as well as soil and groundwater sampling for contaminated site investigations
  • Undertake analysis from desktop studies and site visits and prepare technical reports to support a range of environmental projects including supporting resource consent applications
  • Maintaining and developing great relationships with internal and external clients.

You will have broad scope to develop your career and industry knowledge, while also applying your technical background and knowledge. You will play a crucial role helping construction and development projects achieve their environmental requirements, supporting the design, construction monitoring and delivery. You will have significant variety in this role, working across a vast range of sectors and project types, including infrastructure, water, defence, commercial building development, renewable energy (including generation and transmission), industrial, iwi development activities, and recovery projects in response to extreme weather events – all with a focus on enhancing environmental outcomes. Some domestic travel on occasions, will be required in this role such as to client sites.

You will be part of our Environmental and Sustainability Advisory team who are a nationwide practice, working as a passionate team of trusted advisors, ecologists, water quality and air quality scientists, sustainability consultants, environmental specialists, as well as complementary disciplines such as geotechnical engineering committed to achieving great environmental outcomes.

This role will enable you to combine your passion for the environment and your technical capabilities to help solve real world client problems. You will enjoy working with people from a range of backgrounds to understand their needs. You will provide robust technical advice and analysis to improve environmental outcomes.

This is a broad role where ideally your background will include an understanding and experience in:

  • Preliminary and Detailed Site Investigations.
  • Environmental management, compliance and monitoring, including erosion and sediment control practices.
  • Collection of environmental samples (such as soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and asbestos) via a range of methods, including hand auger, test pitting and drilling.
  • Preparation of health and safety documentation prior to site works.
  • An understanding and experience working with New Zealand’s legislative and planning framework with respect to contaminated sites and earthworks.
  • Proven ability in data analysis including the use of software such as ESdat and GIS
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • A degree in environmental science, geology or related discipline.
