About Us

Genesis Energy is one of New Zealand's leading electricity generators and energy retailer, supplying electricity, natural gas and LPG to more than half a million customers across the country and providing almost 20% of New Zealand's electricity.

We are accelerating New Zealand's transition to a low-carbon future through our Gen35 Strategy, undertaking a $1.1 billion investment programme in new renewable generation, to make Genesis 95% renewable by 2035 with around 8,300 GWh. In addition, we have set a target of reaching net zero as a company by 2040. To help deliver on this ambitious mission, we are on the lookout for the right talent to help us deliver.

About The Role

At Genesis, we're leading some of the country's most exciting generation projects and we're looking for two Project Engineers to play a pivotal role in translating strategic plans into technical execution, overseeing engineering aspects across the pre-construction, construction, and post-construction phases.

Reporting to our Technical Manager - Asset Delivery, you'll be responsible for coordinating all technical aspects of utility scale renewables and BESS projects, from front end engineering through to operational handover. You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, consultants, and contractors to ensure technical requirements are well-defined, quality standards are met, and engineering risks are effectively managed. Whether it's contributing to design, overseeing construction quality, or ensuring smooth commissioning, you'll be at the centre of making it all happen.

If you're looking to be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team making a meaningful impact on New Zealand's energy transition, this is the opportunity for you.

Please note that our preference is for the incumbent to be based at our Hamilton or Auckland office, but for the right candidate, we're open to other locations.

About You

You're an experienced and driven engineer with a strong foundation in infrastructure or generation projects. You know what it takes to deliver complex technical workstreams, and you're equally comfortable getting into the detail and stepping back to see the big picture. With excellent coordination and communication skills, and an agile mind, you're passionate about achieving practical outcomes and ensuring the highest quality standards across the board in a dynamic environment.

What We're Looking For

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering or a similar discipline
  • 5+ years' engineering experience in infrastructure, power systems, or utilities sector
  • 1-2+ years leading engineering activities on major generation or similar infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction, power generation technologies, and New Zealand's electricity industry
  • Familiarity with technical contracts including consultancy, equipment supply, construction, D&C, and EPC models
  • Bonus points if you also bring experience with renewable energy projects, commissioning of new generating plant, and Transpower grid-connection requirements.
