About The Mahi (Role)

We are seeking an enthusiastic Employment Consultant or Vocational Consultant with strong communication skills who will make this role their own!

Based in Christchurch, you will support our South Island Canterbury service in a full-time capacity (40 hours per week) with the flexibility to arrange your own schedule, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

In this role, you will work closely with clients to deliver Back To Work and Job Search programmes for ACC and other insurers, helping individuals prepare for their return to the workforce or find new employment opportunities.

As a valued member of our experienced interdisciplinary team, you will collaborate with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals to provide integrated, client-centred support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing tailored plans with clients and clinicians to create clear pathways toward readiness for work
  • Delivering pre-employment support such as CV and cover letter writing, job search strategies, goal setting, interview preparation, and coaching
  • Sourcing and coordinating training for licensing and skill development
  • Managing funding, timeframes, and communication with insurers
  • Identifying and facilitating work trials and employment opportunities
  • Building and maintaining relationships with case managers, training providers, and employers
  • Completing reporting and administrative tasks

Skills and Experiences:

About You

Our ideal candidate holds a full professional CDANZ membership and has relevant vocational rehabilitation experience, including knowledge of ACC’s Vocational Rehabilitation Services processes.

Experience with Initial Occupational Assessments (IOA) is desirable.

Key qualities and skills include:

  • Full professional CDANZ membership (required for ACC compliance)
  • Experience supporting clients with health challenges, injuries, or disabilities in employment contexts
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with clients, employers, and stakeholders
  • A positive, motivated approach and a strong work ethic
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a clinical team environment
  • Self-motivation and capacity for independent work
  • A full, clean driver’s licence
