Innovation Technician - Dairy Products

The Opportunity
Based in Hokitika and reporting to Westland's Principal Innovation Scientist, the Innovation Technician will provide technical/technological support across the spectrum of innovation and research activities undertaken within the Innovation Department of Westland Milk Products.

The Opportunity
Based in Hokitika and reporting to Westland's Principal Innovation Scientist, the Innovation Technician will provide technical/technological support across the spectrum of innovation and research activities undertaken within the Innovation Department of Westland Milk Products.
More specifically this includes:-
- Physico-chemical testing (e.g., NIR composition, viscosity, colour, particle size distribution)
- Food functional testing (e.g., whipping properties)
- Food application testing (e.g., beverage topping performance)
- Specification creation, specification amendment, BOM amendment, label approval, etc.
- Providing support for pilot plant and plant trials
- Maintaining records on all Innovation Department testing methods and introducing new testing methods
- Maintaining associated laboratory equipment and all Innovation Department product samples, storage trial samples and storage areas
- Collating and analysing testing results and preparing graphs and tables for presentations/reports
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology / Food Engineering / Food Innovation / Science or equivalent
- General knowledge of food technology and food processing, ideally relating to dairy products
- Well-developed laboratory/hands-on R&D skills
- A high level of attention to detail - in planning, practical work, documentation and reporting
- Good communication skills and the ability to work cross functionally to problem solve
- A strong commitment to quality and customer service and the ability to work well in a small team (8)
- A driven and self-motivated approach along with the ability to motivate others
