Established in 2016, ICE is a privately owned entity that specialises in training delivery in the plumbing, gasfitting, and drainlaying sector. We connect closely with stakeholders to ensure ICE trainees are receiving relevant, timely training at a level of excellence.



The purpose & meaning of the role:

We’re looking for a plumbing, gas fitting & drain layer practical tutor, this is an entry level role with an eye to the future being able to develop in role & progress through the business in time.

Initially you’re do all the practical teaching while gaining adult educational qualifications along with certification if required.

This is a challenging role however at the same time very rewarding seeing students’ progress in their chosen career path.

Whether you’ll looking for a change from being on the tools or have been on the tools in the past & moved into another industry we’re keen to speak with you.

Salary Banding is: $80,000.00 – 85,000.00 DOE + KiwiSaver + Benefits


Your Job

The Practical Tutor – Plumbing, Gasfitting & Drainlaying reports to the Otaki based LSM, and is a member of the ICE Otaki team, and part of the wider ICE PGD team.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • You will initiate and constantly demonstrate positive interaction with students, be aware of their general welfare, and identify their specific and general needs.
  • You will employ appropriate practical teaching techniques, equipment, and resources, establish clear and achievable learning objectives and outcomes, and continuously monitor progress and effectiveness via assessment and student feedback.
  • You’ll provide hands-on, day-to-day support to your students.
  • You will lead by example and live the ICE values.
  • You will be responsible for all Health & Safety requirements in all training delivered.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations for PGD.
  • Instruct students on the fundamentals of PGD, including the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and transfer knowledge to students
  • Evaluate and grade students' performance, offering constructive feedback to help them improve their skills
  • Review & enhance lesson plans that align with the curriculum requirements
  • Work towards US 4098 for assessing trainee performance (paid for & supported by ICE)
  • IT / Computer skills (ICE will provide training on internal systems)
  • You will be supervised by one of the ICE certifiers


Desired Skills And Experience

Your qualifications & skills:

  • Registered or Certified Plumbing, Gasfitting, and Drainlaying
  • Hold registered PGD licence (paid for by ICE)
  • Depth of experience across the PGD industry
  • Follow lesson plans, course design, recording completion of tasks and results
