Senior Systems Engineer (Infrastructure)

Position Purpose: The Infrastructure & Network practice is responsible for the design,
provision, operation, security, and management of robust, reliable, and
scalable IT infrastructure and network services that meet the current
demands of the university, while proactively preparing for future
transformation that enables and enhances teaching, learning and
research. This includes the technology infrastructure such as networks,
servers, and storage, as well as the unpinning physical and digital
resources such as data centres, networks and servers, and virtual, hosted
or cloud-based resources including Infrastructure-as-a-Services and
Platform-as-a-Service capabilities to support seamless connectivity and
digital enablement.

The Senior Systems Engineer (Infrastructure) leads the delivery of
operations and design work within the practice. They will have broad
responsibility for work throughout the lifecycle of systems (e.g. design,
build, test, deploy, operate, support, retire) and will be responsible for
optimising the design and delivery of services in cost-effective manner
whilst maintaining system performance, availability and security.

They have deep technical knowledge and use their expertise to advance
the capability of the team, providing guidance other engineers within
their domain of expertise, ensuring knowledge is developed and shared
within the team and with other areas (e.g. End User Support) as part of
providing high-quality and joined-up service experience for end users.

They will have broad responsibility for work throughout the lifecycle of
systems (e.g. design, build, test, deploy, operate, support, retire) and will
be responsible for optimising the design and delivery of services in cost-
effective manner whilst maintaining system performance, availability and
security.

IT Infrastructure (ITOP) • Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of
Level 4 operational procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications: • A tertiary qualification in an IT or Business Management subject, or
equivalent extensive industry experience.

  • Industry recognised certification in Systems Engineering at a senior
practitioner level.

Experience: • Minimum 5 years experience in an IT or IT-related position with
experience in implementing and maintaining technology solutions in
an enterprise environment.

  • Familiarity with storage, virtualisation and cloud technologies and
practices.
