Due to growth and team expansion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer to join us in our Wellington office. Reporting to Head of Data Operations and Engineering, you will help empower Valocity with the ability to unleash the full potential of its data assets, and to build and sustain exceptional global data services that can thrive on Valocity's current and future state architectures.

Key Outcomes
§ Lead components of the ongoing program of modernisation work, reimplementing legacy assets onto the Azure Databricks Lakehouse target state architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, and alignment with long-term data strategy.
§ Identify, design, and implement automation opportunities across existing manual data and reporting processes, championing efficiency and reliability
§ Collaborate proactively with the Data Platform Architect to design, extend, and optimise robust and reusable data pipelines in response to evolving business requirements and integration of new data sources and partnerships.
§ Be able to effectively communicate between the data team and business stakeholders, , translating technical concepts into business context, and ensuring data solutions meet stakeholder needs.
§ Contribute to and continuously enhance the internal knowledge base with an emphasis on usability, clarity, and relevance.
§ Establish, maintain, and advocate for best practice standards in data security, governance, and storage, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal policies.
§ Take ownership of your professional development, actively identifying growth opportunities and engaging in upskilling initiatives to contribute more strategically to data platform evolution and innovation.
§ Support, enhance, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the organisation’s analytics and reporting platforms, ensuring their reliability, performance, and alignment with business priorities.

Key Personal Attributes
Education/qualifications:
Maths, Statistics, Computer Science or related degree with strong numerical analysis components
Prior experience:
Minimum 2 years accumulated experience in Data Engineering.
Technical knowledge/skills:
§ A strong understanding of data modelling with both structured and unstructured data types
§ Good knowledge of SQL and/or Python. Exposure to other data and engineering, visualization and data science tools will be advantageous in particular Power BI.
§ Experience working with Azure Data Platform Solutions including but not limited to Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, Azure Cognitive Services, Azure Data Factory and Log Analytics
§ Competent in Microsoft Office suite of Productivity Applications
§ Used source code control (Git) and some knowledge of CI/CD frameworks
