The ASB Commercial Banking team look after middle-market business customers and are committed to providing the best business offering to New Zealand; through getting to know our customers businesses and understanding their needs to help them realise their goals and ambitions.

ASB is seeking a dynamic and ambitious Commercial Relationship Manager to join our team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for those looking to move into a leadership position, managing two junior bankers while reporting directly to an experienced Senior Commercial Manager.

Focus

  • Grow the Business: Drive business growth through innovative strategies and client engagement.
  • Grow the Team: Mentor and develop junior bankers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Balance Opportunity with Operational Risk: Ensure the right balance between seizing growth opportunities, maintaining profitability and managing operational risks effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Portfolio Management: Manage a robust portfolio of commercial clients, with a particular focus on writing deals for professionals, healthcare, and trans-Tasman corporate clients.
  • Leadership: Lead and inspire a small team of junior bankers, supporting their professional development and performance.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand our market presence and client base.
  • Cashflow Lending: Apply your expertise in cashflow lending to provide tailored financial solutions that meet our clients' needs.
  • Customer Obsession: Maintain a relentless focus on delivering exceptional customer service and building strong, lasting client relationships.

We have 2 roles available, one as a permanent and one as a 12 month fixed-term opportunity.

Ngā mea kia whai angitū ahau? | What do I need to be successful?

It will be your proven experience and success within either Business or Commercial Banking role, outstanding relationship & portfolio management skills, and your strong credit and lending skills that will demonstrate you have the right technical skills for this role. Your friendly, professional, can-do attitude enables you to quickly establish positive long-term relationships with your customers, which is what will set you apart from others.

As this role has direct reports, you will be a natural leader and mentor with a passion for developing your staff and others; however it's not a pre-requisite that you have previous leadership experience.
