About the Role

The appointee will be involved in teaching, continuing medical education and quality improvement. There is emphasis on ongoing development of services to meet the needs of our patients.


About the Team/Service/ Location

The busy service provides over 3,000 endoscopy procedures per year and approximately 2,000 outpatient appointments. The team currently comprises three gastroenterologists, and a team of nurses lead by two registered nurses with extensive gastroenterology outpatient, and endoscopy experience. We have a very active and involved group of medical and surgical specialists here and a very collegial atmosphere exists.


Ruakopito is our newly built start of the art facility, on the campus in Hastings that means all our patient-based gastroenterology services are housed in one place providing 2 procedure rooms, patient recovery, resource and administration areas, clinic spaces and meeting rooms.


As our successful candidate, you will have proven skills and experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. On application, please include a summary of your endoscopy experience.

  • An ability to perform ERCP and large EMR would be desirable
  • A commitment to customer focus, service development and teamwork are essential
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
