Software Developer Innovation & Digital (IT)

Farmlands Co-operative Society

Date: 2 weeks ago
City: Christchurch, Canterbury
Contract type: Full time
Wanted: Software Developer This role is perfect for someone eager to transform from "I have some experience" to "I can explain dependency injection while sleep-deprived" in record time We're on the hunt for a Software Developer who understands that naming variables is actually one of the hardest problems in computer science. You'll join our team of dedicated technologists who believe commenting code is not admitting defeat but rather a gift to your future self. This role is perfect for someone who gets as much satisfaction from refactoring a complex function into something beautifully simple as they do from creating something new from scratch Key Responsibilities
Develop solutions that makes other developers say "why didn't I think of that?"
Help maintain existing codebases while coming to terms with the fact that perfectly sensible people wrote mysteriously bizarre code
Tame legacy systems that have evolved from "temporary solution" to "critical infrastructure" over the years
Share knowledge through pairing sessions where you'll discover both teaching and learning opportunities in unexpected places
Create documentation that includes not just the how but the crucial why, saving future developers from rediscovering painful lessons
Gradually transition from asking "how does this work?" to confidently explaining it to the next new hire
About the benefits You'll be rewarded with:
    Sick leave from Day 1
    Paid birthday leave
Access to training through our online library, The Greenhouse
Staff discounts at Farmlands Retail Stores
Exclusive Farmlands shareholding offer providing access to a vast array of discounts with our Card Partners
Additional support for parents - 10 weeks of fully paid parental leave for primary carers and 2 weeks' paid partner's leave
