About the Role
Applications are invited for a permanent Consultant position in Orthopaedic Surgery. It is expected that the successful candidate will be a generalist orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialist interest in trauma surgery including the management of pelvis fractures, and/or foot and ankle surgery.
This is a permanent post to join a busy Trauma and Orthopaedic department in an excellent provincial public hospital providing Orthopaedic services to a catchment area of approximately 170,000. There are significant opportunities for private orthopaedic surgical practice.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The successful candidate will join an existing team of 10 Part-time Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons, and will be encouraged to continue to develop their sub-specialty interest, contribute to the trauma rota and to the general work of the department. Including teaching, clinical management and effective team working. Consultants are supported by Registrars and House Officers.
Hawke’s Bay Hospital offers a comprehensive list of excellent subspecialty support in keeping with a provincial hospital in New Zealand. This includes ICU, Vascular, General and Urological surgery.
Hawke's Bay has its main hospital situated in Hastings, New Zealand. It is a large secondary level, 400 bed accredited public hospital providing acute and elective care for a region of 170,000 people. The hospital offers a full range of surgical, medical, oncology and radiological services. It boasts a level 2 Intensive Care Unit and an Anaesthetic department capable of handling all major cases. Medical Oncology is based on site and planning to commission on site Radiation Oncology is underway. There are eight operating theatres.
Applicants must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand as an Orthopaedic Surgeon and a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, or equivalent.
