We take a data-led approach to create value for businesses through an end-to-end financial & operational assessment – helping to identify and deliver implementable initiatives to improve EBITDA and cash flow.

The Opportunity

  • We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Deal Strategy senior team member to join our growing team. You will manage client engagements, coach junior team members, and provide strategic advisory services to client, with a focus on value creation, integration, and separation. You will work closely with senior executives and management teams to help them achieve their business objectives and drive growth and profitability.
  • We are looking for candidates at Manager to Senior Manager level, with a relevant tertiary qualification and 5+ years working experience, who bring strategic, commercial, and operational skills to a deal environment.
  • You are likely to have some prior experience of Strategic Transformation, Commercial, Financial Strategy, Corporate Finance, and/or Integration & Separation projects from a Consulting or Corporate environment and will have a desire to build your skills and experience to become a specialist in this space.

Day To Day You Will

  • Lead and manage client engagements and oversee project teams in the delivery of value creation, integration and separation advisory services.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives and management teams.
  • Mentor, coach and lead others, providing guidance on project delivery and professional development.
  • Conduct strategic assessments, analyse market trends, and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Determine value creation opportunities that align with client business objectives, increase revenue, reduce costs, and optimize operations.
  • Evaluate markets, assess market size, growth, segmentation and overall attractiveness, customer / expert interviewing, and assess strengths and weaknesses of market players.
  • Work on broader deal strategy and market entry/growth advice, including hypothesis development.
  • Review or assist in the development of business models including market forecasts, competitor share forecasts, evaluating synergy and cost saving opportunities, and product/service improvements.
  • Undertake client or target or key stakeholder interactions around opportunity hypothesis as well as to manage data flows and support overall management of projects.
  • Perform research and commercial & financial analyses on assigned topics, identifying potential red flag issues and feedbacking “so-what” findings.
  • Pre-deal strategic reviews and options assessment.
  • Pre- and Post-deal separation and integration planning and implementation.
  • Post deal management of ongoing benefit monitoring and capture to support the strategic case of the deal.

What You'll Bring To The Team

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant transaction or business transformation experience from a recognised consulting firm or major corporate.
  • Proficient in financial modelling and/or possess a strong accounting/finance background is ideal.
  • Experience or familiarity with basic data analytics tools such as Power BI, Power Query, data cubes, Alteryx, is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Comprehensive business acumen, with a particular understanding of the M&A environment.
  • Strong client management skills, including an understanding of how to communicate with a wide variety of clients.
  • Proven experience of coaching, leading and mentoring junior team members.
  • Exposure to various types of analysis, such as identifying growth and value creation opportunities, planning and executing transformation programmes (including integration or separation), identifying and assessing synergies, and reviewing business plans/transformation initiatives.
  • Ability to take the initiative and deliver key projects and be able to adapt to a constantly changing and rapidly growing business environment.
  • Collaborative, positive and team-focused.
  • A strong desire to be an integral part of a growth platform for KPMG NZ.
