Mercury is a bold future-focused organisation, providing energy and telecommunications to more Kiwis than anyone else, leading the way with renewable energy and working toward a sustainable future. At the heart is our purpose which pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, our communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our Opportunity:
Lead the Team Shaping the Future of Work at Mercury!
At Mercury, transformation isn't just about systems—it's about people and how we enable them to work, think, and lead differently. We're looking for an experienced and strategic Transformation Capability & Change Manager to lead a passionate team dedicated to embedding new ways of working, building enterprise capability, and enabling real change across our organisation.
This role is not about doing it all yourself—it's about building and empowering a high-performing team that can drive and support Mercury's evolution. You'll provide vision, direction, and coaching to your team, and develop the internal capability required to deliver sustainable transformation, while shaping a culture that embraces change and continuous learning.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a leader within the Transformation & Optimisation function, you will:
- Lead and grow a specialist team of capability and change professionals to deliver transformation impact across the business.
- Design and scale change and capability frameworks, embedding adaptive, agile, and human-centred methodologies into the way Mercury works.
- Develop the internal capability of your team and the wider organisation—ensuring the skills, mindsets, and tools are in place to deliver sustainable change.
- Shape and oversee enterprise-wide interventions that improve transformation readiness, address resistance, and accelerate cultural alignment.
- Coach and enable leaders and teams, both directly and through your team, to operate in more adaptive, agile ways.
- Collaborate with programme, product, and business leaders to embed capability thinking early in the lifecycle of change initiatives.
- Establish and champion communities of practice that embed learning and evolution beyond formal projects.
- Leverage digital enablement tools and serve as a thought leader in how technology supports new ways of working.
- Define and track meaningful measures of transformation success and capability maturity—making sure we learn, evolve, and improve together.
What You'll Bring:
You're a seasoned change leader who believes that transformation is a team sport. You're driven to build collective capability—not just deliver outcomes. You'll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in OD, business, psychology or a related field.
- 5+ years in organisational change, transformation, or capability development roles—ideally with leadership experience.
- Proven success in leading and developing teams to deliver strategic change initiatives.
- Deep knowledge of change methodologies and experience applying agile, design thinking, and adaptive approaches in real-world settings.
- Certification in change management (e.g., Prosci, APMG) is advantageous.
- Expertise in designing and delivering high-impact learning and capability initiatives.
- High digital literacy, particularly with collaboration and enablement tools like Microsoft 365, Miro, or similar.
- An ability to influence across all levels, build strong relationships, and navigate organisational dynamics with confidence and care.
