New Forests seeks a suitably qualified candidate for the newly created position of Fund Analytics, ANZ. This position will play a crucial role in supporting New Forests’ asset management activities across the portfolio in the Australia & New Zealand region.
Reporting into the Asset Manager for the Australia & New Zealand Forestry Fund III, this position will be a member of the Asset Management team, which is responsible for overseeing asset management activities of New Forests and New Agriculture assets in Australia and New Zealand.
The primary focus of this role is to provide analytical insights to the Asset Management team for New Zealand forest assets with assistance on Australian assets as required. By collaborating closely with the Fund Leads and Asset Managers in the team to strive to optimize portfolio value and further New Forests' mission for a sustainable future through insightful analysis.
The scope of analytics will encompass both Fund level and Asset level modelling, including Forestry and Carbon specific forecasts and analysis, in addition to generic financial modelling and valuation analysis. Additionally, this can be extended to support sustainability and biodiversity-based analytics where appropriate.

Financial Analysis
ꟷ Maintain and develop fund level and asset level financial models to inform strategic decision making and valuations. This includes fund extension modelling, analytics to support fee negotiations and other scenario analysis.
ꟷ Support Fund Leads, Asset Managers, Forest Managers, and Valuers in developing asset models by performing appropriate quality assurance processes and ensuring alignment with the intended financial modelling required at the fund level models by performing appropriate quality assurance processes and ensuring alignment with the intended financial modelling required at the fund level
ꟷ Assist in the coordination and management of platform-wide and fund-level analytical projects relevant to the fund's assets. This may involve leading projects independently or
collaborating deeply with staff across New Forests and relevant executives within the asset property operators ꟷ Support the Finance team and Fund Lead in Performance fee modelling
ꟷ Prepare and deliver updates to equity and debt capital participants
Transaction support
ꟷ Support asset acquisition and divestment (deals) analysis and transaction evaluation as part of a pool of analysts
ꟷ Lead and contribute to the modelling of the deal working closely with the Fund Lead and Investment Deal lead. This will include model development & review, contribution to Investment Committee papers, coordination with third party providers, and other relevant stakeholders.
ꟷ Support development of training collateral and documentation for end users of bid model structures
ꟷ Developing and updating standardised systems and processes to estimate potential carbon benefits associated with new investments
Core Analytics
ꟷ Support business development team in developing indicative portfolio models to support fundraising
ꟷ Contribute to the continual improvement of existing analytics frameworks, and the development and implementation of new modelling tools and structures to support New Forests’ existing business and business development opportunities
ꟷ Coordinating and contributing to analytics relating to carbon reporting including development of consistent processes and frameworks for use by the Asset Management team and property operators
ꟷ Contributing to the development & review of ANZ valuation standards for forest assets, forest land, and associated assets (e.g. carbon credits, water licences) from analytics viewpoint, through participation in relevant review processes
ꟷ Professional experience or tertiary qualifications in either fund and or business financial modelling preferably in natural capital assets (i.e. forestry or agriculture) or forestry and environmental science and/or science.
ꟷ Strong analytical ability, with demonstrated experience in fund modelling and operational financial data analysis.
ꟷ Familiarity with core financial modelling concepts including discounted cash flow analysis, financial statements, and internal rate of return, tax and structuring.
ꟷ Ability to coordinate competing workflows, in a team environment
ꟷ An interest (or experience) in using data management tools such as Power BI, XP&A Platforms
ꟷ Excellent time management and organisational skills
ꟷ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
ꟷ Ability to build strong relationships and work within a team environment
ꟷ A personal interest in sustainable forestry and agriculture, and the role forestry and agriculture play in the broader sustainability solution.
ꟷ Ability to travel, as required.
