Mosgiel Tavern requires a Cook to assist our chefs in our busy 7 day restaurant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes and established standards.
  • Ensure food is prepared in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen and work areas.
  • Store food properly, following safety protocols.
  • Examine food for quality and freshness.
  • Season food and prepare sauces, gravies, and garnishes.
  • Portion food onto plates and ensure presentation standards are met.
  • Train and supervise other kitchen staff as needed.
  • Assist in ordering food supplies and equipment.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations.
  • Prepare food to meet special dietary needs or requirements.
  • May assist in menu planning and food cost estimations.
  • Maintain accurate records of food inventory.
  • May assist in cleaning and dishwashing.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Ability to handle kitchen equipment and tools safely.
  • Food handling and safety certificates (e.g., Food Safety Supervisor Certificate) may be required.
  • Required Experience:
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
  • Experience with ovens, grills, fryers.
  • Able to work at a fast pace.
  • Flexibility - weekdays, nights and weekends rostered basis.
