About The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance team at Mercy Hospital in Dunedin. This full-time permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with key stakeholders, lead change and drive process improvements that directly impact our organisational success.

As a Financial Accountant at Mercy Hospital, specific duties include:

  • To be a trusted financial advisor to business unit managers, actively seeking opportunities to enhance knowledge and efficiencies to maximise profitability.
  • Organise and execute budgeting, real-time data access, financial reporting and costing processes to align with Mercy's ongoing financial sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and contractual obligations with particular emphasis on payroll and financial matters.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, and financial reports.
  • Empower the finance and payroll teams to sustainably enhance service delivery and implement process improvements.


Skills and Experiences:

Skills And Experience

The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail, along with a proven ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation. You will also need to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in financial accounting.
  • Chartered Accountant (or nearing completion of Chartered Accountant qualification).
  • Familiarity with relevant accounting software and systems.
  • Strong communication, leadership and influencing skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
