Waste and Environmental Lead (Christchurch)

What's the job?

InterGroup are New Zealand's Infrastructure and Industrial Services specialists, delivering services in waste management, industrial and coatings and infrastructure. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll oversee daily waste and environmental service operations while also driving strategic growth across the Canterbury region. You’ll be responsible for leading field teams, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery, and building lasting relationships with clients and industry stakeholders.

What You'll be doing:

Operational Leadership

• Lead planning and execution of services to ensure timely, compliant delivery
• Manage and support field staff to foster a high-performance, safety-first culture
• Optimise systems, processes, and resource use to improve efficiency
• Maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
• Act as a trusted partner to clients on-site and post-delivery

Sales and Business Development

• Develop and maintain strong client relationships
• Identify growth opportunities and turn them into real business
  
• Prepare quotes, proposals, and tenders with a focus on profitability and deliverability
• Represent our brand at industry events and in the community
  
• Monitor market trends and competitor activity to stay ahead

The technical stuff you'll need includes:

• Proven experience leading operations in waste, environmental services, or civil construction
• Exposure to sales or client-facing roles with an ability to develop and convert opportunities.
• Strong understanding of compliance and safety standards in waste/environmental operations.
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Confident in leading teams and engaging with clients at all levels.
