About The Role

The CSSD Technician role is a highly detailed role focussed on ensuring the effective sterilisation, preparation and maintenance of instruments and equipment used during surgical procedures.

This is a fixed term role offered at 1.0 FTE or 40 hours per week role to be worked on a rotating roster Monday-Friday.

Although prior experience and education in sterile services is preferrable it is not essential, and all training is available on-the-job.

Specific duties include:

  • Following applicable processes and policies to ensure medical instruments and equipment are cleaned and sterilised to eliminate the risk of infections and/or contamination
  • With a high attention to detail, ensure instruments and equipment are correctly repackaged, and assigned to appropriate kits
  • Undertake further education to obtain a certificate in sterilising technology, if you do not already hold this
  • Utilise washers, autoclaves, steris machines and hydrogen peroxide low temperature sterilisation, in accordance with applicable standards
  • Undertake checks to ensure loan equipment kits are complete and processed in a timely manner ready for use in theatre


Skills and Experiences:

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare/theatre or sterile services setting would be advantageous, but is not essential
  • A high level of concentration and attention to detail, with small, detailed work involving the use of microscopes forming part of this role
  • Hold a current NZSSA qualification, or have willingness and commitment to undertake study in this field, on-the-job
  • A team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and a proactive, flexible attitude
