About the role

The Department of Intensive Care delivers services that include Tertiary Intensive and High Dependency Care, Deteriorating Patient Intensive Care Outreach Service, and the Air Retrieval Service.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Christchurch Hospital is located in the new facility at Waipapa. We have a diverse patient group and provide care for a variety of diagnoses in both adults and children requiring intensive care, including those following cardio thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and trauma.

We are looking for a passionate Ward Clerk to join our ICU Department on a part-time basis. This role will be based at Waipapa in Christchurch. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate that has a strong administration background coupled with great customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast paced, challenging environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Meet and greet patients and whānau
  • Confidentiality – check with patients and whānau on how they would like their name displayed or not
  • Management of phone calls into ward/unit
  • Contact person for the ward/ unit and communicate between departments
  • Supply and equipment ordering
  • Manage patient bookings
  • Manage the rostering system
  • Process patient information and records

About you

Skills and experience

  • Experience using a Patient Management System (desirable)
  • Intermediate Microsoft Suite Skills (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Very high levels of confidentiality
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised and have high levels of initiative
  • A willingness to help those around you
  • Organisational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Able to pick up and use new systems and technology
