About the Role

As a Specialist Anaesthetist based at Christchurch Hospital, you will play a central role in delivering acute and elective anaesthesia care for neonates, infants, and children. You - ll contribute to the out-of-hours paediatric on-call roster and support a wide variety of surgical and diagnostic services, including General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Neurosurgery, Dental, Radiology, and Oncology.

The role offers a diverse mix of clinical work, including elective and acute paediatric anaesthesia, neonatal care, as well as a balance of adult anaesthesia during regular working hours. In addition, you will supervise and support anaesthetic trainees, helping to shape the next generation of specialists.

About the Team / Service / Location

The Paediatric Anaesthesia team is a closely connected, highly skilled group providing comprehensive anaesthetic services across the Canterbury region - a population of nearly 700,000. All team members have completed at least one post-fellowship year in a paediatric hospital, ensuring specialist-level care. The department is ANZCA-accredited and plays a vital role in paediatric surgical services and supporting Christchurch - s dedicated children - s oncology unit and tertiary-level neonatal unit.

About You

As a Specialist Anaesthetist, you will have:

  • A qualification recognised for vocational registration by the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • At least one post-fellowship year of experience in a Paediatric Hospital
  • Proven ability to manage a wide range of paediatric and neonatal anaesthesia
  • Enthusiasm for working in a team-focused, teaching and learning environment
  • A commitment to delivering equitable and excellent care across all communities
