Are you a skilled and motivated Medical Laboratory Technician with leadership experience? We are seeking a Supervising Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to lead and manage a quality blood collection service within Canterbury Health Laboratories. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated professional who wants to make an impact on healthcare services in the community.
About the Role
As the Supervising MLT, you will be responsible for balancing your supervisory role while also participating in routine blood collection (60:40). You will supervise and monitor the quality of phlebotomy services across the Blood Test Centres and hospital wards, ensuring that all aspects of the service are client-focused, effective, and meet the highest standards of excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Section Head to provide high-quality service to clients across all locations.
- Ensure the Blood Test Centre and Phlebotomy service meet IANZ laboratory accreditation requirements regarding training, service delivery, and documentation.
- Liaise with clients to ensure their needs are met and that the service is tailored to meet their requirements.
- Supervise and manage staff to ensure appropriate human resources are available to meet service objectives.
- Ensure all staff and individuals requiring training in phlebotomy are appropriately trained and supported.
- Promote and support quality initiatives, monitor outcomes, and implement improvements.
- Handle client feedback, including positive comments, inquiries, and complaints, to ensure satisfaction.
- Oversee equipment maintenance, supply procurement, and site maintenance functions.
- Provide accurate and timely communication to the Section Head.
- Ensure housekeeping duties are performed to maintain a safe and organized environment.
- Adhere to safety programs and procedures and ensure staff are well-informed about health and safety hazards and controls.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Section Head from time to time.
- Maintain knowledge of Health NZ health and safety systems and policies, promoting awareness to staff.
About you
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in leading and supervising staff.
- Strong laboratory background and a deep understanding of Blood Collection Services or Medical Laboratory operations.
- Appropriate qualification in Phlebotomy.
- Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster open communication and build strong team dynamics.
- Client-focused with a strong commitment to quality outcomes.
- Ability to delegate, consult, and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to train and mentor staff to achieve their best performance.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt effectively in a dynamic healthcare environment.
- Must be in a state of health that enables the completion of key tasks.
