A little bit about the role:
The position’s primary purpose is to work with Kathmandu stakeholders within the Product and Marketing Teams, and external resources, to design and develop all Product requirements for graphic print designs, yarn dyes and creative packaging solutions. Ensure consistent implementation of Kathmandu brand guidelines across all Kathmandu products. Communicate the value and integrity of Kathmandu as a leading outdoor and lifestyle brand through all design work.
Day to day responsibilities include;
- Research and analysis of current design and graphic trends during design camp and throughout the year
- Illustrate and concept artwork for repeat prints, placement prints, yarn dyes, accessories and equipment
- Engage with print houses to create custom artworks where needed
- Set up and update all artwork information in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), including name, properties, supplier and thumbnail
- Concept and design new packaging solutions, instruction illustrations and product drawings
- Develop packaging with suppliers including materials and costing and present concepts to key stakeholders
- Apply seasonal product copy to packaging templates and create clean and accurate final artwork for suppliers
- Search for and implement sustainable packaging solutions
- Model and promote the Kathmandu culture and values and delivers on graphic artwork promise to stakeholders and customers
This is what you'll need
- 5+ years Design experience, ideally gained within a similar outdoor or sportswear brand.
- Experience in Illustration for textile design and creating packaging.
- Design degree or similar.
- Knowledge of garment printing methods and packaging printing methods.
- Portfolio of proven graphic abilities.
- Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system a bonus.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Great verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong understanding of current design trends, innovation and consumer behaviours.
- Diligent attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and team-oriented.
- Effective communication skills, ability to work across multiple departments internally.
- Knowledge of the outdoor industry.
- Understanding of logistics and timing related to product development.
- Intermediate knowledge of textile printing, product packaging, and print methods.
