Contract type: Full time
About Us

LIC has been pioneering innovative solutions in the agri-tech space for over a century, making us New Zealand's leading agri-tech cooperative. Recently ranked #8 on the TIN200 list of top NZ tech companies, we're on an exciting journey to enhance our digital platform and deliver real, measurable value to our internal customers. Join us in redefining the digital landscape and shaping the future of our platform.

About The Role

As a Product Owner in LIC's Digital Platform team, you'll be a key player within a cross-functional software development team that designs, builds, and manages products to drive our software development future. Our Digital Platform product underpins LIC's digital transformation, and your role will ensure our solutions align with our business goals and meet our customers' needs.

In this role, you'll leverage your deep understanding of product discovery and delivery to guide the team on prioritizing, planning, and delivering the right solutions. Working alongside technology leaders, business analysts, engineers, and testers, you'll analyse complex problems, develop and test hypotheses, document plans, and ensure our digital platform is robust and future-ready.

This role is an individual contributor position. You'll need to influence teammates, stakeholders, and executives with data-driven insights, strategic reasoning, and clear communication.

What You'll Do

  • Product Discovery: Collaborate with the software development team on discovery activities, including prototyping and user journey mapping, to solve customer challenges with validated solutions.
  • Prioritization and Planning: Use data-driven insights to make strategic decisions about the product backlog, ensuring that the software team builds high-value features that meet business goals.
  • Product Delivery: Define and prioritize deliverables, focusing on both functional and non-functional requirements to maintain product quality and transparency.
  • Project Management: Track budgets, estimate work, forecast timelines, and manage delivery risks, escalating issues through the appropriate channels when necessary.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as the main liaison between the software team and stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication on progress, scope, and projects.

About You

You're an experienced Product Owner, ideally from an environment with an established product management practice, and you bring the following skills:

  • Proven Product Discovery and Delivery Expertise: Demonstrated understanding of modern product discovery and delivery techniques and the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience: 3-5 years working on technology-driven products as a product manager, product owner, product designer, engineer, data analyst, data scientist, or user researcher.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to find solutions to complex problems, assess risks, and build a structured, data-informed narrative to communicate your recommendations.
  • Collaboration Skills: Proven ability to engage constructively with engineers, designers, and executives, building strong, collaborative relationships.
  • Learning Agility: Enthusiastic about quickly learning new areas of business to ensure your team builds what customers need.

In Return

  • Competitive Salary: We value your skills and expertise. Enjoy a competitive salary that recognises your contributions.
  • Flexible working: Split your time working remotely and from our office.
  • Great Work Environment: At our Hamilton office you'll have free carparking, free EV charging stations, tennis court, pool, and onsite café.
  • Benefits that Matter: You'll receive some great benefits, including extra leave days, and discounted health insurance.
  • Make a Difference: Working in a dynamic technology environment you will play a key role in building the next generation digital platform to help the next generation of New Zealand dairy farmers sustainably feed the world.
